Manchester United Eye Serhou Guirassy as Potential Solution to Striker Crisis

Manchester United have reportedly identified Borussia Dortmund forward Serhou Guirassy as a target following an injury to Benjamin Sesko. With the Red Devils struggling near the bottom of the Premier League, the experienced goalscorer could provide much-needed attacking reinforcement in the January transfer window.

Manchester United are facing a challenging campaign after a difficult start under manager Michael Carrick. Despite successfully guiding the club into the Champions League after taking over from Ruben Amorim, recent transfer recruitment has failed to deliver results. Summer acquisitions such as Youri Tielemans, Andrey Santos, and Carlos Baleba have struggled to make the desired impact, leaving the team with just one victory from their opening nine league fixtures and sitting fourth from the bottom of the table.

The situation has been further compounded by an injury sustained by striker Benjamin Sesko in September, which leaves him sidelined for an unspecified duration. With the need for a recognized goalscorer growing urgent, reports indicate that United have scouted four Borussia Dortmund players, focusing their attention primarily on Serhou Guirassy.

The 30-year-old French-Guinean forward has remained prolific, recording 68 goals and 15 assists across the past three seasons. Offering both pace and an awkward presence for opposing backlines, Guirassy provides a contrasting profile to attackers like Bryan Mbeumo and could serve as an effective stopgap or reliable squad option during Sesko's recovery.

During the 2026/27 campaign, Guirassy has delivered impressive numbers for Dortmund. He leads his squad in aerial duels, winning 33 of 67, and has contested 114 ground one-on-ones, while pacing the team with six fast breaks. In addition, he has taken 41 shots with a 58.82 percent accuracy rate, standing out as the only player in the squad with multiple braces this season. He has also registered the most headed attempts on goal with 12, created a team-high 14 big chances, and maintained a 77.12 percent pass completion rate.

Bringing in Guirassy would provide immediate relief to United's attack while allowing Sesko the necessary time to regain physical and mental sharpness. The Slovenian forward could also benefit from the veteran striker's movement and finishing expertise, while Carrick or any prospective managerial replacement would gain valuable rotation depth.

However, finalizing such a transfer presents significant hurdles. Guirassy remains under contract with Dortmund until the summer of 2028, leaving the German club under no pressure to sanction a sale. Furthermore, Dortmund are currently unbeaten and level at the top of the Bundesliga alongside Bayern Munich, meaning the forward would have to weigh leaving a title-chasing side for a team currently navigating a potential Premier League relegation battle.
